Celebrity Homes: Oprah's The Promised Land

This entry in our celebrity home profiles is quite possibly the most renowned celebrity home in the entire United States.  We are of course talking about Oprah Winfrey’s Montecito, California estate, The Promised Land.

Oprah named the estate to pay homage to a remark by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and we couldn’t think of a better name to reflect the character of this property. In 2001, Oprah purchased the home and the surrounding 42 acres for $52 million (it’s now worth $85 million). The story of its purchase is a testament to Oprah’s obscene wealth. She simply attended a party that the former owners were sponsoring, fell in love with the house, and then offered the owners a check for $52 million despite the home not being for sale.

The spacious Georgian-styled manse covers 23,000 square feet and has 14 bathrooms and 10 fireplaces. Oprah largely keeps her sanctuary concealed from the public eye, so details on the house are somewhat scarce. Although, we do know that the mansion comes complete with a 1500 volume library, and a garden adorned with 600 rose bushes.  Oprah also had an open air tea house built in the midst of the garden which she uses as a retreat on rainy days (which we guess accounts for a whole week out of the year). Check some photos out below.

Celebrity Homes: George Clooney's Villa Oleandra

Villa Oleandra, view from Lake Como

Villa Oleandra, view from Lake Como

Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney owns a marvelous villa in Northern Italy. Villa Oleandra, located in the town of Laglio, sits overlooking the picturesque Lake Como. In ages past, property on Lake Como was reserved for royalty and political powers, and we’re sure you can see just why. Clooney has stated that this is his favorite home out of any that are in his possession.

While not as sizeable as some other celebrity homes (We’re looking at you Oprah), the villa still consists of a main house and a guest house. The main house consists of 7 bedrooms and 6.5 baths; while the guest house contains 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The interior and exterior are both exquisitely designed; the interior especially has a sophisticated, regal feel to it. The palatial 18th century villa also features a pool, a secluded garden, and of course, a dock.  Check out the stunning pictures below.
